Private Referral & Preliminary Opinion
OPTION 2 – WITH AN APPOINTMENT
BEFOREHAND –
- Ask about our fixed fee before making
your appointment. This fee should be brought (as a cheque or cash) to the
appointment.
- If you do not have a referral
letter, write down one or two questions which you hope to have answered. If you
have time, by all means also write a brief summary of what has happened to you
to raise these questions. These two things avoid wasted time at the session,
especially if you send them to us in advance.
- Bring all material which may be
helpful (eg x-ray films, reports, letters, forms, work history or CV).
- Dr Dodwell welcomes a support person
or whanau to help make things run more smoothly.
- Please advise us before confirming a
booking if an interpreter may be needed, as this can increase the length of
time involved.
AT THE APPOINTMENT –
- We try very hard to respect the
needs and worries of claimants - but we reserve the right to terminate a
session if claimants do not show us respect in return.
- An interview takes most of the session time. In
going through the story of what has happened, the doctor and the claimant check
the reports on hand to see whether anything important is missing or incorrect.
The physical examination will vary depending on the relevant medical
conditions, and is quite short. There are usually a few minutes of discussion
at the end.
